Mapanget coconut is launched as national superior coconut in 2005. This coconut was resulted from positive mass population at Mapanget Village, Minahasa District, North Celebes. It can well grows in lowland area up to 300 m above sea level and in dry land with wet climate (rainfall > 2500 – 3500 mm/year).

This coconut produces fruit at 5 years old with circle medium sized coconut, and brown red colored skin. Production per bunch is 7 pieces equals to 90 coconuts/tree/year or equals to 3.3 t/ha/year. Its equals to 3.3t/ha/year copra production and has 62.95% oil content.

The Mapanget variety has several superiorities. It has high yielding fruit and copra, high oil content, slightly tolerant to long draught, resistant to rotten sprout disease caused by Phytophthora palmivora fungus.

It is potential to be developed as superior seed variety in the national coconut rejuvenation and development program.
