JAKARTA – Vice President Jusuf Kalla, on the opening ceremony of the Environment and Forestry Fair event, Thursday (18/6/2015) at the Jakarta Convention Center, reminded that the environment is not just about forests and forestry, but more extensive than it is and should be a concern of all parties.

According to Vice President, there were three important things that need to be concerned for the future i.e. the technology, the legacy of a good environment and respect for human rights. Besides that, VP also reminded that the society should also pay attention to the level and pattern of consumption of both food and energy.

“Protecting the environment is not just the environment, but also to restrain our consumptions,” said Jusuf Kalla.

On the occasion, Minister for Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya said that this event is to show the performance and achievements of the various programs and activities of the Government, the business community and the public in the field of environment and forestry.

“We hoped to be able to arise the public’s awareness in environmental management and forestry in particular on consumption and sustainable production,” added Siti Nurbaya.

Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) as an institution that produces agricultural and food technology, participated in the event by featuring variety of technological innovation results which support the adaptation and mitigation to climate change.

Among others were Sunan pecan as biofuel alternative raw material, soil and fertilizer testing kit, low-emission animal feed, also various information and publications of the innovation technology studies which related to the environment and climate change.

The Fair was one of the series events of the World Environment Day which this year’s theme is ‘Dream and Act together for the sustainability of life on earth’.
