BOGOR - IAARD now has 131 Professors after inauguration ceremony held on Monday (9/4/2018) at the Auditorium Ir. Sadikin Sumintawikarta in Bogor, West Java Province. The ceremony was to legitimate three researchers to be a Professor under IAARD. They are: Dr. Ir. Sahardi Mulia, MS, Dr. Ir. Hasil Sembiring, MSc, and Dr. Ir. Made Jana Mejaya, MSc, who each deals with the field of plant cultivation, hydrology and soil conservation, and plant breeding and genetics, respectively.

Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, in his speech delivered by IAARD Director, Dr. Muhammad Syakir, immediately assigned the three Professors to implement his research to strengthen strategic programme under the Ministry of Agriculture. Prof. Dr. Made Jana Mejaya is challenged to be a forerunner in using hybrid corn seeds generated by IAARD collaborated with farmers in dry land.

"It can be applied by improving the management of seed provision in Seed Resources Management Unit (UPBS) across IAARD institutions and the programme of Self-Sufficing Village on Seed. Furthermore, it is expected that the price of hybrid corn seed F1 would be more competitive," the Minister said.

Prof. Dr. Hasil Sembiring is challenged to formulate re-innovation of the Integrated Crop Management (ICM) technology based on agro ecosystem. Therefore, the new pattern of ICM is not only oriented to increase productivity, but also to increase farmers' income. "This concept would be the foundation in developing “Special Effort” or UPSUS PAJALE 2018-2019," the Minister added.

The same challenge applies to Prof. Dr. Sahardi Mulia, to build the agricultural corporation by combining cultivation technology of planting seed directly using raw planting system (Tabela super jajar legowo) and other technologies. The pilot project area could be developed in several locations in Sulawesi Island,” the Minister said.

It seems so special during the inauguration ceremony that the topics brought by the three Professors are closely related to the main strategic programme of the Ministry of Agriculture, as the so-called UPSUS PAJALE (dealing with Rice, Maize and Soybeans). (adm/vwh)
